Door Repair Update

Mike Thomas of Thomas Marine Interiors is hard at work on the door repair. He is trying to get the work done before Native Brightworks completes the brightwork. If he doesn’t, Archimedes has no doors. That would make it a bit drafty and hard to lock up the boat.

The interior surfaces of the doors were looking quite shabby. Weather, water, and time have left their mark. You can see some of the damage in this photo between the bottom corner of the window frame and the door latch.

The old caulking and glass have been removed.

Mike has build a perimeter pattern around the door panel. The outside edge of the pattern is exactly the same size as the door panel.

Here he has built another perimeter surrounding the panel pattern both inside and outside. These perimeters are glued temporarily to the door. He can now remove the panel pattern and have the panel bordered on all edges by a 3″ wide flat surface. A “pattern” bit in the router will follow the borders edge. Mike set the depth of the cut for the new panel He will route all around the borders and turn the existing panel to dust.

This is with the routing border still on just after routing the panel away.
