Montague to … Montague

We spent the first night at Montague anchored on the north side of the park. I have never seen so many boats inside the harbor. I guess it was a combination of the holiday weekend and the great weather. We moved to a mooring buoy in the park for the second night.

We’ve been toying with the idea of getting kayaks for the boat. Something to toddle around in that is a bit more peaceful than the inflatable and outboard. We rented a couple of kayaks at the Montague marina and paddled around the bay for a couple of hours. It was fun. I was surprised a how tippy the kayaks were. Northbound – Seattle to Port Townsend

Saturday afternoon. Labor Day weekend. Many boats waiting at the locks to head out to the Sound. The large lock gates swing open. The lockmaster calls for the larger boats first so they can tie up to the wall. All the small boats immediately head in to the lock and block the way ….

After navigating the locks, we are on our way north. A fantastic day for boating.

Following the larger group of boats out of the locks and into the sound.

Keeping Stuff Organized

I don’t know about your boat, but we have collected a drawer full of manuals and documentation for the various electronics and gizmos on Archimedes. While we occasionally reference one from time to time, they mostly just take up space. Our solution is an iPad and an app called Good Reader ($4.99).

Sausage Rolls!

I have no factual data regarding the popularity of sausage rolls in British Columbia. All I can say is that we see them in every grocery store we visit. A brief google search shows they appear to be popular in Britain. Perhaps that’s the link. What I can say is that they are tasty. Not haute cuisine by any means, but easy to make and eat on a boat.

Wouldn’t you know it? THE nicest weather of the year and Seafair weekend to boot. Where are we? Lounging on the deck in the sun with a big hat and a drinks with little umbrellas? Nope. How about squeezed into the flybridge combing re-wiring all the electronics. Yup.

Nothing but work this weekend

This weekend was devoted to fixing things and general work around the boat. Too bad. Saturday was a fantastic day for boating. Perfect weather. Low 80’s. Dead calm. Lots of people out on Lake Union. Boats just drifting in the sun. Not me. I  glanced occasionally at people enjoying themselves while I tried to get as many of the little projects done as I could.

The Alameda Boat Show

San Francisco and the Bay Area fancy’s itself the center of the universe for many things. Seattle can claim the prize when it comes to boat shows. I visited the Strictly Sail Pacific boat show in Alameda this Saturday. It is a nice show, and was pretty busy, but it pales in comparison to the Seattle Boat Show. With the amazing sailing the San Francisco bay has to offer, I always hope for a bigger boat show (perhaps there is one and I just don’t know about it). Nevertheless, I always enjoy spending time around boats and marinas.
