Water Filtration Project – Part 1

While we can hold 250 gallons of fresh water, we generally purchase gallon jugs of water for drinking. This seems silly to me with all the water we have on board. So it’s time to put in some filtration so we can trust the water in the tanks.

As usual, my solution is probably over engineered. And of course, I waited until the boat was in the yard to start working on this project. Although I made a few drawings and took measurements, I can’t confirm some of the measurements and finish the project until I get the boat back and can test fit everything.

Here’s my plan …

Spring Haul Out

I got an early start Friday morning. Left the dock at 6:00AM headed over to Seaview West at Shilshole. It’s time to haul out, clean and paint the bottom, check the zincs, and take care of a few other little odds and ends.

It was a fantastic morning for boating. Here is a photo coming out of Agate Passage.

Trawlerfest

Saturday morning we fired up the car early for a road trip to Anacortes. It is time for Passagemaker Magazine’s Trawlerfest. We drove to Port Townsend, hopped on a ferry and drove up Whidbey Island. It was a nice drive and the first time we have passed this way.RKL_9388 Continue reading

A Short Trip

We enjoyed a great but short overnight trip to Blake Island this weekend. The weather was fantastic. It felt very strange. We’ve been boating in this area for a number of years now. During this time, our boat has always lived on or near Lake Union. This was the first trip from our new home in Poulsbo.

The beginning of our adventures all started with a slow trip through the ship canal then out through the locks. The end of the trip was the opposite followed by a plane ride home. Poulsbo has always been a destination. Now it’s home.

We are Anchored at Blake Island

mv Archimedes Blake Island morning 1

It’s a beautiful morning! The weather was so nice yesterday, we decided it would be wrong to not use the boat. So last evening we motored down to Blake Island. We are anchored on the west side of the island. Looks like another great day in the Northwest. Sadly, we are headed back this afternoon. Still have some things to do around the house.

3D Charts, Carved In Wood

You’ve probably seen them, they’re in a number of shops; multiple locales rendered in wood, behind glass. Rusty and I have always looked at them but never bought them. We didn’t have wall space, and couldn’t agree on which one to buy anyway. There’s one of Puget Sound, and of the San Juan Islands, and of the Salish Sea, and … well, how do you choose? They have lots of them, from all over the States, even the Caribbean.

We’ve been published!

Readers of this blog are likely painfully aware that I am not a wordsmith. Some folks can make words dance on a page. They spin an eloquent yarn that has the ability to hypnotize the reader. That’s not me. I can, however, given enough time and luck, make a decent photograph. That’s the limit of my talent.

So I was surprised when the editor of Sea Magazine contacted us about doing an article for their magazine. He had found us through our little blog.
