We met Mel and Eileen yesterday. I tried to help him with a computer/GPS problem he was having, but he figured it out before I did. They have a wonderful 1983 Grand Banks 42 Motor Yacht, Mei Lee. The Motor Yacht version of the 42 uses the same hull as us, but pushes the aft stateroom out to the sides of the hull. While it eliminates the ability to walk completely around the deck, it gives the interior the feeling of a much larger boat. We kept asking them … are you sure this only 42 feet long? They purchased the boat new in 1983. They were very nice and gave us a tour of their boat. Here they are leaving the marina on their way back to Olympia.

Point Hudson Morning
I went out for a walk around the marina this morning to see if I could make a few nice photographs. You can’t really go wrong with a beautiful morning, a quiet marina, and lots of old wooden boats.
Victoria to Port Townsend
Departure this morning was at 6:30 am. We slipped out quietly without disturbing the neighbors. We had hoped to go directly to Port Townsend, but were unable to make an appointment with Customs. Soooo … we had to back track a bit and go to Roche Harbor in the San Juan Islands to clear Customs before heading south across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. That detour was worth about three extra hours.
Northbound – Seattle to Port Townsend
Saturday afternoon. Labor Day weekend. Many boats waiting at the locks to head out to the Sound. The large lock gates swing open. The lockmaster calls for the larger boats first so they can tie up to the wall. All the small boats immediately head in to the lock and block the way ….
After navigating the locks, we are on our way north. A fantastic day for boating.
