North to Jones Island

We have the boat back. And we have the water filters installed. And now it’s time to head north to the San Juan Islands. We are bound for the annual Puget Sound Grand Banks Owners Association rendezvous at Roche Harbor at the end of the week.

We got a late start from Poulsbo (too many things to do and not enough time) so we decided to head for Mystery Bay. We’ve never been there before and now seemed like a good time. Just across from Port Townsend, it’s a convenient place to stop for the night and get an early start across the strait the next morning. We grabbed a buoy at the Mystery Bay State Park. The sky looked ominous, but it was calm and gorgeous.

Water Filtration Project – The exciting conclusion

Just when you thought it would never end …

It does. Really.

Now that we have the boat back, I was able to tackle what was the easiest part of this project. I just needed to mount the accumulator tank and the pump on the new filter platform, and run new hoses between everything. I pulled all the old plumbing out and took it back to the house. Here is everything mounted up and ready for the hose.

Back from the boat yard

We are finally back from the boat yard. Well …. at the time of this writing, we are on the boat in the San Juan islands. But we can all pretend that we just got back from the yard. It all happened pretty fast.

I left the marina in the dinghy Saturday morning at 5:55. The weather was good and the water was flat and calm. I zoomed over to Shilshole in about 45 minutes. The boat was in the water waiting and the bill was paid (ouch!). I hopped on, hoisted the dinghy, and headed for Poulsbo.

The dinghy sat in salt water for a month. We hadn’t really planned on that. The bottom was pretty grungy. It is amazing how fast sea creatures latch on and start growing.

Water Filtration Project – Part 3

First, let me apologize. I’m not really trying to turn this project into an epic event. If I’d done this when I had access to the boat, it would have taken half as long. Additionally, time to work on it is limited to weekends. And … we need to get the boat back next weekend so I can wrap this project up.  We are headed for a week in the San Juan Islands soon. With that said, here’s the progress I made this weekend.

Water Filtration Project – Part 1

While we can hold 250 gallons of fresh water, we generally purchase gallon jugs of water for drinking. This seems silly to me with all the water we have on board. So it’s time to put in some filtration so we can trust the water in the tanks.

As usual, my solution is probably over engineered. And of course, I waited until the boat was in the yard to start working on this project. Although I made a few drawings and took measurements, I can’t confirm some of the measurements and finish the project until I get the boat back and can test fit everything.

Spring Haul Out

I got an early start Friday morning. Left the dock at 6:00AM headed over to Seaview West at Shilshole. It’s time to haul out, clean and paint the bottom, check the zincs, and take care of a few other little odds and ends.

It was a fantastic morning for boating. Here is a photo coming out of Agate Passage.

Trawlerfest
