Port Townsend to Seattle

Well … for anyone returning in anticipation of a new, witty, and thoughtful post similar to what you have come to expect from the previous few weeks, I apologize. There is not much interesting to report.

We spent yesterday at the Point Hudson Marina in Port Townsend cleaning the boat. We washed down the kayaks and inflatable, cleaned the anchor and bow, washed the salt water off, and completed a few other minor projects. I added water to the batteries.

This Blue Heron hung out on the pilings near us most of the morning.

New life for our old windlass

We’ve had a few issues with our little windlass in the past. It seems to have been abused to the point of failure recently. I posted about that here. And last year we had to replace the motor. That post is here. I am going to take the high road here and blame all of this on previous owners and/or years of dedicated service and hard work (and perhaps just a little abuse).

There is a noticeable difference between the old gear and the new one.

Blake Island without friends

As avid readers of this site (if there are any other than close relatives (and I am not sure about them)) will note, we’ve been to Blake Island an awful lot lately. In our defense, sans windlass, we are currently limited to marinas and mooring buoys. We choose mooring buoys over marinas any day. That limits us to relatively few places close to Seattle.

So that’s how Kim and I ended up at Blake Island all by ourselves (but by no means alone) this weekend.

Happy Boating this Memorial Day weekend

We hope you are all having a wonderful time on your boats this long holiday weekend.

Please take a moment to look at that flag we all fly so proudly on our boats and remember that far too many have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect that flag, our country, our freedom, and our way of life.

Happy and safe boating to all.

Grand Banks rendezvous, day two

The last day of the Pacific Northwest Grand Banks Owner’s Association’s Grand Banks rendezvous in Roche Harbor is over. Lots of stuff going on today.

The weather has been fantastic, but that looks like it is about to change. Rain is on the horizon for the trip back to Seattle.

Going to Our First Rendezvous

I just signed us up to attend our first rendezvous. The Grand Banks rendezvous. May 9th to the 12th in Roche Harbor. We’ve never been to a rendezvous before. In fact, our idea of quality time on the boat generally does not include other people anywhere near us. This should be interesting. We actually do expect to have a lot of fun. How can it be bad. Lots of Grand Banks boats in one place. A very nice place on top of that.

The rendezvous is put on by the Pacific Northwest Grand Banks Owners Association.

We should be in fine condition by then. Much work is in progress. Native Brightworks will have finished the brightwork and Thomas Marine Interiors will have repaired the inside of the doors. I have a number of projects to complete between when I get the boat back and time to head to the rendezvous. And, of course, a whole lot of cleaning is required. We don’t want to look like the poor relation from the wrong side of the tracks when we get there.

We are looking forward to the experience.
